Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office News Release:
Today (11/08/12) at approximately 2:30 p.m. the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to a crash with injuries on the northbound lane of U.S. Highway 41N at the intersection of Baseline Road. Upon arrival it was determined that a semi traveling northbound collided with the back of a passenger car in the right lane of northbound Highway 41. This collision caused the passenger car to spin around and collide with another passenger car which was traveling westbound on Baseline Road at the edge of the intersection.
Witnesses on scene stated that they observed a grey Acura driven by Ivan Carvajal (47) of Newburgh had stopped for a light as it was changing from yellow to red when the semi driven by Mickey Perry (44) of Olney, Illinois struck Carvajal's vehicle. Carvajal's vehicle spun around and struck a white Chevy driven by Tosha Miller (21) of Evansville.
Scott Township Fire Department as well as Haubstadt Fire Department arrived on scene where Carvajal had to be extricated from his vehicle. Carvajal was transported to Deaconess Hospital where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
During the collision one of the diesel fuel tanks on the semi ruptured spilling several gallons of fuel on the roadway. Traffic on U.S. 41 was diverted for approximately 90 minutes while the spill as well as the wreckage from the accident was cleaned up.
Traffic leaving North High School was also diverted away from the accident scene.
