Chris Reiter was named the Green River Kiwanis 2011 Firefighter of the Year Wednesday. Reiter is a seven-year veteran of the fire department, a private on Engine No. 14 and a member of the Dive Rescue Team. Chris has been very involved in 911 GIVES HOPE, which sponsors the Guns & Hoses charity boxing matches, even fighting in the first event. Chris currently coordinates the Toy Drive, Guns & Hoses ticket sales for the fire department, manages the boxing equipment and sits on the Guns & Hoses Board of Directors. Chris and his wife, Krista, have two children, Avery, age 12, and Gabe, age 9.
Reiter received a wall plague from Kiwanis and a $100 gift card each from Fifth Third Bank and Evansville Firefighters Federal Credit Union. The Green River Kiwanis will also erect a billboard with his picture, proclaiming his accomplishment. The billboard, courtesy of Lamar Advertising, will be at a location and date to be determined.
Reiter is the 31st recipient of this annual award. He was one of five nominees for this year’s award. The other nominees are: Dan Brown, Greg Lehman, Don Spindler and Cliff Weaver.
