News Release from Evansville Police Department:
The Evansville Police Department has announced plans to return the color of their patrol vehicles to white. The decision was based on information gathered by a committee of officers appointed by Chief Bolin.
The committee used feedback from other officers, safety studies that compared white cars to dark colored cars, and most importantly- citizen input. While the intent of the black cars was never to make the officers less visible, that is the perception of a lot of the citizens who voiced their concerns over the black cars.
The new white cars will have a new decal design, but the design has not been chosen yet. The car brand and number of cars being purchased is not being released at this time.
The 7 black patrol cars will continue to be used by the police department, but not in a motor patrol function.
