Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office News Release (Nov. 21, 2012):
The Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office has arrested an Evansville man on felony charges stemming from a burglary that occurred in western Vanderburgh County earlier this month. Jeffrey Wayne Reich was arrested (on November 20th) on 2 counts of Burglary - Class B Felony and 2 counts of Theft - Class D Felony following a confession to crimes at the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office Command Post.
On November 1st of this year, a homeowner reported a burglary at this west side residence. While there were no signs of forced entry, a number of items, mostly jewelry, were found to be missing. During the course of the investigation Reich was developed as a suspect. On November 20th, detectives with the sheriff's office were able to locate Reich who agreed to come to the Command Post for an interview. During the course of the interview, Reich admitted to gaining entry into the home on two occasions and stealing the jewelry. He said that he later sold them to several local jewelry stores. He also admitted to burglarizing a relative's home, however the victim declined to press charges. Reich stated that he committed these crimes to support an addiction to pain medication.
Reich was arrested and transported to the Vanderburgh County Detention Center where he is being held without bond pending a court hearing.
