Warrick County – Wednesday afternoon, October 31, Indiana State Police arrested John B. Ulrich, 42, of Evansville, after an investigation determined he allegedly embezzled more than $60,000 from the Erie Canal Beagle Club near Lynnville. Ulrich was arrested at his residence at 4:30 p.m. without incident and taken to the Warrick County Jail. He was later released after posting a $4,000 cash bond.
Indiana State Police initiated a criminal investigation on August 9th after receiving information Ulrich was possibly stealing money from the club’s checking account. Club members were in the process of auditing the checking account when they noticed several discrepancies. Ulrich had been the club’s treasurer since December 2008.
During the investigation, Detectives Tobias Odom and Brad Chandler were able to determine that during the last five years as club treasurer, Ulrich allegedly issued himself numerous checks from the club’s checking account for his personal use that totaled nearly $48,000. Additional checks totaling over $12,000 were issued to numerous businesses for items that were not authorized by Erie Canal Beagle Club.
