Bobbie Jean Cunningham
Evansville Police arrested 62 year old BOBBIE JEAN CUNNINGHAM on a slew of charges after she refused to control her aggressive pit bull at an accident scene.
An officer was investigating a property damage accident in the 1900 block of Waggoner when he heard a person yelling for help. The officer saw a pit bull trying to attack a pedestrian. The officer saw CUNNINGHAM near the dog and asked if it was hers. She said it was her dog, but refused to control it or take it back into her house.
The dog then turned its’ attention towards the officer. After repeatedly telling CUNNINGHAM to control the dog, the officer told her he would be forced to shoot the dog if it continued to try and bite him. CUNNINGHAM then grabbed the officer by the arm and tried to throw a can of dog food on him. The officer tried to put handcuffs on CUNNINGHAM. When he did, the dog charged at him in an aggressive manor again. The officer fired one shot, striking the dog. The dog continued to come at the officer and he fired a second shot which also struck the dog. The dog then stopped its’ aggressive behavior. The officers’ actions prevented any citizens as well as him from being bitten by the dog.
The officer then tried to get CUNNINGHAM into custody. She continued to resist and tried to avoid arrest by running into her home. She was taken into custody after a struggle with several officers.
She was arrested on multiple charges. The dog was taken to the emergency vet clinic and is still alive at this time.
