Evansville Water and Sewer Utility wants to remind residents that sprinklers and other lawn watering systems will lead to a spike in one’s sewer bill. They have reportedly received an increase of calls regarding the drastic changes in residents’ monthly bills.
Most properties in the city have one meter that reads the water usage both inside and outside of the home. The reading of same that meter determines what residents are billed. Owners are allowed to purchase a separate meter for outdoor usage, if needed. "Sewer usage fees have always been connected to water usage,” said Allen Mounts, Director of Evansville Water Sewer and Utility.
The recent drought has brought on an increase in water usage due to residents irrigating their lawns and has ultimately increased their bills. The Water and Sewer Utility wants to inform citizens of this often overlooked issue and help encourage water conservation.
