Mt. Carmel, IL Police Department Press Release:
On 11/15/2012, the Mt. Carmel Police Department was involved in a vehicle pursuit that ended in a Mt. Carmel Police vehicle being damaged. The Mt. Carmel Police Department is asking the public for information concerning the whereabouts of the driver of the suspect vehicle.
On 11/15/2012 at approximately 9:00 pm Mt. Carmel Police Officers attempted to stop a Red 2011 Chevrolet truck for multiple traffic infractions. It's believed the truck was driven by 29 year old Jonathon J. Bonnell of Mt. Carmel. Bonnell is a white male, 6'1, 180 lbs, with brown hair. Bonnell had 2 passengers in the vehicle with him. Bonnell is currently wanted on a Wabash County warrant for failure to appear. When officers activated their emergency lights and sirens, the truck sped up and failed to yield for the police officers. The vehicle traveled W/B on 3rd Street and turned onto Wabash 10 Avenue. While on Wabash 10 Avenue, a Mt. Carmel Police Officer lost control of his vehicle and struck the side of a tree causing damage to the squad car. The police officer suffered minor injuries. The vehicle pursuit was then terminated. The squad car had to be towed from the scene.
The suspect vehicle continued on Wabash 10 Avenue then missed a curve ending up in a field just South of Perry's Trailer Court. The subjects fled the scene and left the vehicle in a field. A Wabash County Deputy located the suspect vehicle and it was towed from the scene. The suspect vehicle will be processed later today for evidence.
One of the passenger's in the suspect vehicle was located at his residence in Keensburg, Illinois. That passenger was questioned and released by authorities. While attempting to locate Bonnell, officers spoke with a Karey S. Harms of Mt. Carmel and found that he was wanted on a Wabash County Warrant. Harms was placed under arrest on a failure to appear warrant and is currently being held in the Wabash County Jail pending the posting of $300.00 bond.
