NEW HARMONY, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has responded to a request from the White County Bridge Commission for assistance in closing the Harmony Way Memorial Bridge. Effective immediately, the bridge is closed indefinitely to all traffic crossing from New Harmony, Ind., into White County, Ill.
The official detour via state highways follows Indiana State Road 69, Interstate 64 and Illinois State Road 1. Slow-moving vehicles, such as farm traffic, should use the Indiana State Road 62/Mount Vernon Toll Bridge. Prior to the closure, the Harmony Way Memorial Bridge carried less than 1,000 vehicle trips on an average day.
