One person is confirmed dead following a three alarm fire in McCutchanville Tuesday night. The fire was reported about 6:30 p.m. at 738 Strawberry Hill Rd. Fire officials say when they arrived, two homes were fully involved. The flames then quickly spread to two other homes in the neighborhood. Adding to firefighter's concerns, a gas line in one of the homes caught fire causing the fire to burn hot and move very fast fire officials said. After the fire was tapped out, crews searched the residences for one man who was reported to be unaccounted for. Firefighters found his body inside one of the homes that was fully engulfed when they arrived.
Central Dispatch told crews en route that they had multiple calls on this fire, some reporting 2 homes were on fire. They told dispatch to send out a second alarm at this point. Upon arrival, fire command immediately requested a third alarm. Firefighters from multiple agencies across the area responded to the alarm. They quickly knocked the large, multiple structure blaze down and command reported the fire tapped out approximately 8:00 p.m. One firefighter did suffer from dehydration after the fire and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported. Fire investigators remain on scene and the cause of the fire is not known as of this posting.
