I, Officer Nathan L. Hassler, along with Officer Matthew Knight were assisting ATF on a detail at 921 W Maryland St. Officers made contact with the OF who invited us inside. I could immediately smell the odor of marijuana upon entering the residence. I noticed a glass pipe in plain view on the coffee table in the living room that I know through my training and experience to be commonly used to smoke marijuana. I brought the pipe to the OF's attention and asked if he had been smoking marijuana. The OF advised me that he had been along with everyone else in the house. I asked the OF if there was anymore marijuana in the house. The OF told me that he had a large quantity of marijuana in his room upstairs. I asked him if he would show me where it was located and he agreed to do so. The OF took me upstairs to his room and got a clear plastic zip-loc bag containing approximately 1 pound of marijuana from his dresser drawer and handed it to me. I saw a Ruger 9mm pistol on his dresser and picked it up for officer safety. There was also a scale and a grinder laying next to the pistol. I asked the OF if there were any other firearms in the house that I should be aware of. The OF advised me that he had an AR-15 Assault Rifle in his closet along with a 12 gauge shotgun. I recovered the AR-15 and instructed the OF to go back downstairs into the living room. Meanwhile, Officer Knight located approximately 4 other subjects in an adjacent room and instructed them to go downstairs to the living room. Officer Knight retrieved the shotgun from the OF's room before he came downstairs. Officer Knight saw the amount of marijuana that I had retrieved from the OF's bedroom and asked him if he had anything else in the house that we should be aware of. The OF advised Officer Knight that he had another large quantity located in the basement and offered to show Officer Knight where it was located. Officer Knight took him up on his offer and the OF led them downstairs where he showed Officer Knight where another large zip-loc bag of marijuana was located on top of the air duct in the basement. Officer Knight asked the OF if there was anything else in the house that officers should be aware of. The OF advised Officer Knight that there was nothing else in the house to his knowledge. Officer Knight asked him for consent to search the house and presented him with a consent form explaining his Pirtle rights. The OF signed the form along with the two other occupants of the house giving us written consent to search the property. Officer Knight and ATF searched the the residence and recovered $2,880 in cash from the dresser in the OF's room. I ran the serial numbers of all 3 firearms. The Ruger pistol that I had recovered from the OF's dresser was confirmed stolen by dispatch. ATF Special Agent Chad Foreman took possession of all 3 firearms. The OF was transported to the Vanderburgh County Jail where he was booked on the listed charges without incident.
