Spencer County - A Dale man was arrested this afternoon for intimidation after making threatening statements to the Principal at Chrisney Elementary School.
Detectives from the Jasper Post launched criminal investigation today after the North Spencer School Corporation called to report that Daniel W. Powers, 37, Dale had allegedly made threatening statements to the Chrisney Elementary School Principal. These statements were made in such a manner that the Principal perceived that if Powers were to follow through with them, it may lead to her and or her family being harmed. The threats came after the Principal responded to some requests that were made by Powers.
Through the investigation the detectives were able to establish enough probable cause for an arrest warrant to be issued for Powers. At approximately 5:00 p.m. CDT troopers went to Powers’ residence in Dale and arrested him without incident and transported him to the Spencer County Jail. Powers is being charged with Intimidation a Class D Felony. This charged was enhanced from a Class A Misdemeanor to a D Felony due to the fact that the threats were made to a school official.
First Sergeant Robert Priest of the Jasper Post and the Superintendent of the North Spencer School Corporation, Dan Scherry both said, “In today’s society we cannot and will not tolerate any threats that are made towards our schools, the faculty in the schools and most importantly the children who attend the schools. Anytime someone threatens the safety of our schools a thorough investigation will be done.”
